Gingerbread Family

A haiku with their short story

All three almost there
each longing for more in life
a family affair

They dreamt of being Santa’s treat.

“Maybe next year,” the mom said. “Or could we still make it,” the dad said? Well, the baby said, “I don’t know.”

The mom thought she heard the front door open. “Is this our big chance?” Did she ask? The dad said, “maybe so.” Well, the baby said, “I don’t know.”

The mom wondered what their next move would be? The dad said, “run!” Well, the baby said, “I don’t know.” And with that, they took off down the street past sugar plum trails and lollipop garden and straight to the plate for Santa’s next fantastic date.

The moral of the story: We all have a destiny, but could some of us just be a little fashionably late?
