“Cancer, You Picked The Wrong Girl.”

– Unknown Author

Cancer did pick the wrong girl. Yet, I wouldn’t wish breast cancer, any illness, or a traumatic event on anyone.

Re-entry or coming back into society after having breast cancer has been another challenging part of this battle.

The fight itself was one thing. Unfortunately, Covid-19 struck at the time of my double mastectomy in March of 2020, and things got pretty hectic. It postponed my re-entry and complicated it some too. My second surgery during the pandemic was even more traumatic than the first surgery, which had already left me with a collapsed lung. The recovery process was slow and painful.

Although, at some point, you must determine to let some things go, like fighting with the hospital or insurance company. Choosing what your new is and what that means after a slight or devastating interruption can be difficult.

Determining what your new is

For me, it has been that I mustn’t forget or bury the person I once was but embrace the person I am today.
